So, I need to post more often.

Yeah…

We had the goth party! It was heaps of fun. Lots of photos came out the other end which weren’t quite as terrifying as I had imagined they would be, which is good. Turns out my makeup was thick enough to hide my bright red cheeks and other facial travesties that come from drinking too much. Turns out my lungs weren’t thick enough to handle smoking half a pack of cigarettes in one night though. *cough*

Since then I’ve developed a bit of a nasty toothache and it feels like I may also be coming down with a cold. I’m not sure if the two are linked or not, but either way I felt like crap enough to need to stay at home today. Got a lot of sleeping done and sat my arse down in front of WoW for a bit, although was quite zombified during.

Which of course, led me to thinking about a couple of things that are kind of niggly at the moment in Wow.

One, another guild is trying to poach one of our favourite and newest healers on the block. Now its all good if she wants to go, they are further progressed and its understandable if she wants to see more content before the expansion pack comes out. But we are a small guild and I’m a tad bit worried that she might get swallowed up by the big guys. Big guilds don’t have a great reputation for being friendly, especially when you enter at the bottom. Plus, she is my RL friend and colleague and maybe that makes me bias. All the same, we will be really bummed if she leaves.

The other is that the guys who left earlier in the piece have now decided to settle in an old guild that actually used to belong to me. Kind of funny, kind of weird, I am kind of unsettled by it. I know that I left it so I shouldn’t really care what happens to it, but the fact that these guys went on and on about how much I sucked, then they join a guild that used to belong to me, and then they change the tabard to almost identically match our current one in Requiem? Should I feel stalked? Worshipped? Plotted against? I’m not sure right now. I armoried it and the only people in it are ex-members of Requiem (all of whom exited after the blow out that I blogged about previously). I’ve also heard of a couple of people who are currently in Requiem that are going to be leaving for this other guild. Interesting? I’m pretty sure there’ll be some stories attached to this one in the weeks to come..

PS.  I have to give a shout out to Tania, even though she is obviously a Horde Lover.. I can get over that because she is a real person and totally found my blog and commented on it.  Yay!

2 Cheap for Costumes!

Posted 2 months, 2 weeks ago at 3:08 pm. 0 comments

So next weekend I’m heading to my old home town of Taupo to attend a friends birthday party.  She’s decided to make it a Goth fancy dress theme, about which I am quite excited.

Luckily for me, and all the rest of Wellington, we have this great shop called ‘2 Cheap’.  Its at least 1.95 times better than the 2 Dollar Shop, which makes their most common price of $3.90 totally worth it!  Today I scored a pair of black bat wings, a black feather boa, two pairs of false eyelashes (with glue, bonus!), a pair of long black gloves, a giant black rose brooch, and a black tie with skulls on it (for Dan if he decides to go) all for just over $20.

I can feel my costume-making mojo levels rising already…

Guild Birthday!

Posted 3 months ago at 11:20 am. 2 comments

We had our one-year guild birthday last Friday night.  It was fun!  I had planned on doing some drinking in one of the pubs in Stormwind City, and was pleasantly surprised when a big bunch of guild mates decided to join me.  We had quite the party :)  Photos here, but you’ll need a facebook account to view them.  We also had a birthday parade around the city which was quite entertaining, and included pissing off some ex-guildies who were quite miffed they werent invited to join the fun.

After that we took a group to Karazhan with the intentions of completing it within 2.5 hours, the prize being 1000g to be divided between the 10 of us if we were successful.  Unfortunately we weren’t.  So I get to keep the money. Muahaha.

All in all we had a great time and thanks to all who really made an effort to have a fun evening!

Like this panda bear, I wanna do it all over again

whee!

Free Phone = Bad

K so I signed up on Vodafone for a contract the other day.  Currently I have a prepay mobile, a Panasonic VS3.  Purchased from a private seller on Trademe probably at least 2 years ago, the little guy has given me no trouble whatsoever and in fact has been a joy of a cellphone to use.

Anyway.  I decided to switch my Prepay over to a contract for monetary savings reasons, and noticed they were having a deal where I would receive a free phone for switching to this contract.  Free phone - SWEET! I thought.  Unfortunately now I am thinking, free phone = waste of time.

I am not knocking Vodafone’s service here - it was primo.  I could do everything I needed to do online and didn’t need to go into the shop or phone them or anything like that.  I can fault the courier on a number of things, but that is another story.  The main problem here is the phone, and software.

The free phone is a Samsung E250.  Before ordering the contract I asked aorund and a couple of my friends seemed to think that they knew people who had them and thought they were great.  So I was like, ok, and ordered the phone, which arrived today.

Once at home I wanted to play with the phone immediately, but was advised to put it on charge first.  So I inserted the battery (leaving my sim card in my current phone in case I needed it) and plugged it in and left it for about 4 or 5 hours.  After this I couldn’t stand not being able to play with my new toy, so I pulled my sim out of my Panasonic and endeavoured to open the battery case on the Samsung.

It wouldn’t budge.

Broken fingernails, bent credit cards and a slightly scratched mobile phone later (this amounted to about 45 minutes), we finally managed to pop the back off the phone.  At one point I was even googling for other people who had the same problem and trying to find solutions.  I did find a comment that mentioned getting the battery covers off Samsungs is harder than climbing multiple flights of stairs holding a sandbag.  That’s pretty accurate, as far as my experience goes.

But now that I was successful in inserting the sim and replacing the battery, I turned it on, to be greeted with a flood of red Vodafone stuff - to be expected since it is a Vodafone branded mobile.  But past that, there is a whole extra level of disappointments.  The entire software seems to have been infected by Vodafone’s giant red and white theme.  The website boasts a black GUI, but all I see is pale blue, bright red, and horribly pixelated icons.  In the phones display settings there are options to change certain things such as the transparency of the GUI, the text display, etc, but when I altered those - nothing happened.  Very disappointed since my Panasonic has a choice of 3 super lovely themes which all match nicely.

After experiencing disappointment with the GUI, I moved to ringtones.  The ones that came with the phone are compeltely boring and I’m not sure if you can even use your mp3s that you upload to the phone as ringtones, either..

By this stage, I was going D: in real life.

I decided to test the camera, which is only VGA, not even 1 megapixel (my Panasonic that is years old has a 1.3 megapixel camera).  To my dismay I found another fault - the central button which is used for the shutter is actually quite hard to press, which means that when you apply pressure to the button, the entire phone moves and thus generates a blurry picture most of the time and since the quality is bad anyway… well, you get the idea. Drunk photos = very bad idea on this phone if you want to be able to recognise any part of them.

So yeah.  Vodafone Samsung E250 = poohs.  I wonder how they manage to sell them for upwards of $200?

New theme wooooo!

Put the pencil to the paper, give the paper to the people, let the people read about the sellotape oh baby, baby, yea.

K so I found a theme that I like! Finally, hahaha. I’ll probably want a new one in a week or so.

But anyway the fun thing with this one is that it was made by a German designer, and so most of the stuff was written in German, too. Such as “Kommentare” , and the entire 404 error text - which I have drastically improved, by the way - check out a post that doesnt exist.

So for the next little while, if anybody finds anything in German that I’ve missed please let me know!

Drama Llamas (this is what I put up with)

Ok, this post is a little late since this all happened probably a week ago now, but I thought I’d write about it anyway since some people find these posts hilarious..

So these same people that featured in my last post about WoW decided to have a blow out which ultimately ended in their decisions to leave the guild. All in all, I’m relieved. The guild has been a happier and far more relaxed place since. A few others have decided to follow in their footsteps but I’m confident that the people we have left are more than capable of rising up over the issues that were brought to light.</end proud guild leader message>

Anyway, we had just finished doing something together and it was around 6pm in New Zealand, which was my cue to go AFK (away from keyboard) and make some dinner. When I came back I found out that two people had left, one of whom had decided to make a public spectacle of her problems with the leadership of our guild (conveniently while I was away and unable to defend myself and the other staff, I might add).

The main perpetrator is a female that I have known for almost the entire time I have been playing WoW and we used to be quite close, until recently when she began flopping her tits out at every occasion became more extroverted and accusing me of abandoning her when I became close with other members of the guild and spent more time with them, and subsequently less with her.  Yes, I am guilty of it - but I do believe that it was a two way problem where her behaviour was a large deciding factor in the dissolving of our friendship.

Here is a pieced together, semi-complete screenshot of her rant (courtesy of a friend who was only away for a part of the outburst). I’ve blacked out her name for privacy reasons. Note the intelligent language on her behalf..

Ok so its really hard to read… haha.. heres what it says:

- OK heres the deal.. the gms only do shit w. ninja shanks nd a couple other ppl ive ben in this fuckin guild for like almost 2 yrs and i se it going down the fuckin toilet
- ok so dont tell me wat the fuck is goin on cuz seriously it gets fuckin rediculous sorry im bein a bitch but im tired of it thats all
- i bust my as to get ppl into kara and no one wants to show up
- i finally get it to where i can get new ppl in w eld and wtf grp 1 is seen as like were tryin to break away
- and the gms didnt even wanna do gruuls.. but yet will pug gruul runs so yenno they barely gave eld premission dto do this shit and they dont even go
- im a single mom goin to school and other classes takin care of my own housholdand workin but i can still put together a kara run and get shit dun but the gm cant fuck this

Let me rebut her points one by one:

- the guild has only been around for 11 months not two years. Maybe I am guilty of doing more things with the mentioned people, but in my opinion its human nature to gravitate towards certain people. Just like she gravitates towards anything with a penis.

- People were trying to defend us but this is what we get whenever we’ve tried to explain anything. She just won’t hear it.

- Busting her ass means chit chatting over voice to a few guys and doing her best girly laugh. I’ve been on voice with them during those raids, I don’t blame people for not wanting to go…

- At one point their group decided that it would be okay to bring in outsiders and exclude a bunch of people in the guild that were ready and willing to go. They didn’t run it by the management or anything like they should have, and even went to the extent of having secret meetings without their raid leader.. just, wtf.

- The “GMs” can’t attend things such as gruuls and certain activities because they happen at 2.30pm NZ time (aka. while I’m at work), and at 10pm her time, AFTER shes done with work and taking care of children and housework etc. The other guild leader runs his own restaruant and doesnt get out of work until 11.00pm at the earliest most nights. I dont really think its appropriate for me to say “hey Natalie, I need this afternoon off so I can go kill a bunch of ogres and a big hairy guy”

After that a couple of people voiced their opinions that they didn’t think she held a valid argument and got their throats jumped down by one guy, who WAS an upstanding member of the guild until he decided that he was to be her knight in shining armour. But the people who spoke up stayed (they held probably the only voice of reason during the entire debacle) and he ended up leaving as well. This is the kind of private messaging I got from him prior to that:

That one’s much easier to read.. But yeah. Lots of hostility for something that’s not really real don’t you think? OUCH! I’m a liberal!! Dammit!

Right now, the guild seems to be settling down quite nicely and as I said above, everybody seems a lot more relaxed. The first girl has now moved to another guild (with a really stupid name), and taken probably 3 or 4 people with her. The guy above in the pink text is still currently unguilded and I’m waiting for the day he decides that he regrets what he said and wants to come back. That day will be nice.

But really, our losses are 4 or 5 people out of 50. And we’ve gained new members since who are already fitting in with us really well. Even though it is sad to say, I actually think we’ve come out better off.

Hopefully this is the end of the drama.. but then what would I have to write about? Maybe I’ll do recipes.. Hmmm..

Emo OH! rama

Posted 3 months, 3 weeks ago at 12:40 am. 0 comments

So I should have blogged about this earlier, but we organised an American Emo themed party at our work, the first of many in our International Drinking Series. They’ll probably be held monthly - stay tuned for further installments.

Anyway, heres the invite:

The evening started in the mid afternoon as seems to be the usual (and fantastic) way to start things at Decisive Flow. A trip to Moore Wilson’s was necessary and then we spent the afternoon doing our hair and makeup and all kinds of girly things. Unfortunately the first male to turn up also got the same treatment - beginning a trend that was to continue on every un-eyelined male that walked in the door.

The party itself was in full swing by the time I had to leave, which was incredibly sad and early and much like an emo grandma. There were lots of people crowded around our iMacs playing in Photobooth, which will prove for a hilarious Flickr album on Monday. ;]

Hope everybody had a great time and looking forward to number two, Britpop! Now that I’m mostly sober I’m starting to recall some kind of discussion that involved us dressing up as the Spice Girls. That could be quite something… =P

And now I shall leave you with an emo poem that I didn’t think of myself (but I did adapt it and make it way cooler for realz).

If you’re emo and you know it, /wrists
If you’re emo and you know it, /wrists
If you’re emo and you know it,
And a really shitty poet,
If you’re emo and you know it,

/WRISTS
